Current Grants

Competition on Microsoft Office Specialist Competition.

The 2008 worldwide office specialist academic competition is open to students around the world.  The competition, with online testing in Word and Excel skills, will allow students to prepare using the guides, learning materials and skills standards available for Microsoft Word and /or Excel certification exams.  At the conclusion of the regional competitions on June 15, the students with the highest Word and Excel scores in the shortest amount time will be the regional champions.

Target Local Store Grants

Grant applications are being accepted from nonprofit programs that impact the following areas: Arts; Early Education Reading; and Family Violence Prevention.  Arts grants are awarded to programs that bring the arts to schools or make it affordable for families to participate in cultural experiences.  Early childhood reading grants support programs that promote a love of reading and encourage children to read with their families.  Family violence prevention grants support programs that strengthen families by preventing or reducing the cycle of family violence. Average grant is between $1000 and $3000.

MetLife Foundation/Civic Ventures Break Through Award is for innovative organizations that tap the passion and 2008 experience of people over 50 to improve society.  Civic ventures will provide up to 10 one-year grants of $25,000 each to community colleges that develop innovative ways to attract prepare or place adults age 50 and over in your careers in education, health care, social services and similar fields.  Funds cannot be used for traditional older education offerings that focus on cultural recreational or personal enrichment activities.

Honda -- The Power of Dreams.

The  American Honda foundation will fund youth and scientific education programs that it considers “Honda-Like” defined as  “Dreamful (Imaginative), Scientific, Creative, Humanistic, Forward Thinking."  Multi-year up to two years and proactive grants scholarships and fellowships. Average grant is between $40,000 and $80,000 per year.

CDW-G.  Win a Wireless Lab Sweepstakes.

The Discovery Channel has partnered with CDW–G to offer schools the opportunity to win a wireless lab, including 20 notebook computers, one mobile classroom cart, accessories, training is set up with an approximate value of $40,000.  The wireless lab is to designate grand prize in a random drawing contest.  Additional prizes are also available.

National Science Foundation's Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge.

Some of sciences most powerful statements are not words, but pictures.  The National Science Foundation (NSF) and Science created the Science and Engineering Visualization Challenge to celebrate the tradition of illustration.  Winners in five (5) categories: Photographs; Illustrations; Informational Graphics; Interactive Media and Non-Iterative Media.

FINRA Investor Education Foundation.

FINRA investor education foundation funds research and/or education projects that support its mission of providing underserved Americans with knowledge deals and tools necessary for financial success throughout life.  In 2008, the Foundation is especially interested in applications that focus on: New marketing and distribution channels for financial and investor education; Helping Americans manage their finances and investments in retirement; Meeting the financial and investor education needs of underserved audiences; Using behavioral finance to improve saving and investing.

Adobe Design Achievement Contest.

The Adobe Design Achievement Awards celebrate student achievement reflecting the convergence of technology in the creative arts.  Individual winners will receive $5,000 cash, seven (7) different Adobe software products, a winners certificate, and a three dimensional award.  Group winners will receive $5,000, to be split by the winning members.  There are nine (9) categories: Animation; Digital Illustration; Digital Photography; Environmental Graphics and Packaging; Interactive Design; Live Motion; Motion Graphics; Print Design Multi-page; Print Design.

Idea Locker’s Digital Arts Challenge Student Contest

The Idea Locker’s By Kids for Kids “Digital Arts Challenge” is offered to individuals between the ages of 5-19.  Entries must visually tell a story (formats include digital stories, visual essays, comic stories, cartoons, greeting cards, posters, wall art, billboards, etc.).  There will be 1 Grand Prizewinner, who will receive $10,000 and a 2-day/1-night trip for two to New York City where the winner will shadow an expert in publishing.
